WHAT IS THOUGHT FIELD THERAPY?
Over 20 years in
development, TFT is a technique for the rapid elimination of
all types of emotional distress. It has been described as a
procedure that provides a code to nature’s healing system,
when applied to problems - addressing their fundamental
causes, balancing the body’s energy system and often allowing
the elimination of negative emotions within minutes.
It works rather like
acupuncture by stimulating the body’s energy meridians. But is
a much simpler process, with the client simply finger tapping
on various points on the face, hands and upper body for a few
moments. It is simple, painless and is done fully clothed by
the client themself. The results are frequently amazing, and
emotional problems can disappear in minutes.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
TFT is based on a new
theory about how negative emotions (including phobias and
traumas) develop. Conventional medicine assumes that the mind
and brain are the same thing, and that emotional problems such
as anxiety and depression are caused by a structural or
chemical abnormalities in the brain, which can only be
corrected by drugs.
For decades, however,
there has been an alternative view that the mind and brain are
separate. TFT founder, Dr Roger Callahan, believes that the
mind is contained in a field which surrounds the physical
body. He belives that when we think of anything we ‘tune in’
to an individual ‘thought field’. When we feel distressed,
there is a ‘perturbation’ in the thought field
and that triggers the distress.
By tapping on specific
sequences of meridian points on the body, the perturbations
are eliminated and the distress disappears. It is rather like
discovering the key to a combination lock controlling negative
emotions and turning them off.
HOW WAS TFT DISCOVERED?
TFT was invented and
developed by Dr Roger Callahan, one of American’s most
distinguished and experienced clinical psychologists. He was
unhappy with the results for conventional therapies and became
interested in Applied Kinesiology, involving the body’s energy
meridians.
The first person to
experience the amazing results of TFT was Mary, who had an
extreme phobia of water. Dr Callahan had treated her for 18
months using conventional techniques, without success. One day
she said she felt “sick to the stomach”’. He knew of a stomach
meridian point under the eye and, when this point was tapped,
Mary’s life-time phobia promptly vanished – they were both
amazed. The phobia has stayed away to this day.
Callahan
repeated this technique with other phobia sufferers and found
it worked only on some patients. However, he knew he had
discovered something important and years of research,
experimentation and development resulted in TFT.
WHAT IS TFT USED FOR?
Dr Callahan discovered
that most emotional problems could be cured by tapping on the
correct parts of the body in the right sequence. These include
phobias, traumas, anxiety, depression, OCD, stress, panic
attacks, jealously, grief, anger,pain and numerous addictive
urges including alcohol and tobacco. It is now also used to
overcome performance barriers in business, sales, sport and
the arts.
Other problems which
were previously hard to treat can also be addressed – such as
jet lag and problems with visualising.
New uses for TFT are
being discovered all the time. TFT’s benefits can be seen by
patients using Heart Rate Variability monitors, and some
patients with post viral fatigue, MS and ADHD have seen
improvement.
