WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis.  It is completely natural and safe, with no harmful side effects.  It is nothing like stage hypnosis, and you remain aware and in control!

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

In simple terms, hypnosis describes a state in which someone’s body becomes completely relaxed, which their mind is calm, concentrated and aware – rather like being totally absorbed in an exciting movie.  We all go into these natural trance states every day – daydreaming, forgetting chunks of a car journey or getting wrapped up in a book.  A hypnotherapist’s voice and visualisations can gently guide you into this wonderful relaxation, which often produces a tremendous sense of well-being.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In hypnosis, the mind is more receptive to positive suggestions and it is possible to access the area of the mind beyond the normal level of conscious awareness – the subconscious or inner mind.  Our mind works on two levels.  We make decisions, think and act with our conscious mind, while our subconscious is the automatic facility of the mind; controlling our habits, behaviour patterns  and containing all our memories.  In hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the subconscious.

COPE WITH THE PRESSURES OF MODERN LIFE

ADVANCED HYPNOTHERAPY allows you to make positive changes in your life. Working as a partnership, the therapist can work with you and your sub-conscious to get rid of unwanted habits or problems. It can help provide the motivation you need or allow you to return to a memory that, although long forgotten, may be causing you to behave in a certain way. The issue can be resolved, you can release negative emotions, heal any hurt and move on.

Unlike suggestion only hypnotherapy, 4Change has a tool kit full of therapeutic techniques which can be used - which are always explained to clients  - visualisation, regression, Gestalt, parts therapy, NLP, positive thinking to name a few – oh, and a sense of humour!

CAN EVERYONE BE HYPNOTISED – HOW DOES IT FEEL – AM I IN CONTROL?

Anyone of normal IQ with no severe mental problems can be hypnotised if they wish.  There are no special “feelings” as such – you are not asleep - you just experience a wonderful feeling of relaxation.  You certainly remain in control and are aware of what is happening or said.  If a fire alarm went off, for instance, you would come out of hypnosis immediately for self-protection, and you cannot be made to do anything against your will.

SELF HYPNOSIS

The benefits of daily relaxation are enormous for your mental and physical well-being. All clients are taught self-hypnosis so that they can get themselves into a calm, resourceful state whenever they need to. One bank manager client swears by it, and often takes a quick ‘power nap’ at work to aid his performance.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Advanced hypnotherapy is a brief form of therapy which gives powerful results. It’s important to stress that most issues need a COURSE of therapy over about 3-5 sessions. If you have been troubled with an issue for years, you cannot expect a therapist to work a one-hour miracle cure! Therapy is brief – but not that brief.

Normally, sessions are about a week apart, with the first two sessions lasting approx. 1 ½ hours, and subsequent sessions at about 1 hour. Clients are given tailor-made tapes to listen to daily between sessions. This forms an important part of the treatment, so commitment is key.

If a client is committed to stopping smoking, they can choose a 2 – 2 ½ hour intensive session, or attend three weekly sessions. The latter may be preferable if the client has many emotional issues or certain physical conditions.

PUTTING YOU IN CONTROL

In addition to hypnotherapy, 4Change believes in giving clients a variety of tips and techniques and ‘thinking’ skills to allow them to take charge of their emotions. These are simple but very powerful tools for your ‘tool box’ which can make all the difference.

COMMITMENT

Hypnosis is not magic - the client is an active part of the process. It goes without saying that the client needs to follow simple instructions where given to obtain the results they want. Any tapes and literature provided also form an important part of the therapy – so commitment is key. 4Change will give you a variety of ‘tools’ to help you take control and obtain your goals. These can help with every aspect of your life. You will need to use those ‘tools’ to get the best results.

Sometimes telephone enquiries ask about my success rate. That depends upon the client! I am 100% committed to their success – they must also play their part by having the motivation to change, following any tips given and listening to any tapes provided. You get a course of therapy and you get homework – if you expect someone to click their fingers and make you well in minutes you need a magician!

PLEASE NOTE

The effects of therapy may differ for different patients, and no therapy offers a 100% guarantee of a cure.  All clients are required to complete a questionnaire form before hypnotherapy, in which you are asked to disclose certain medical information.  Whilst advanced hypnotherapy is very safe, if you are epileptic, or undergoing psychiatric treatment, you should obtain a letter from a medical practitioner to confirm that you may have this treatment.
