Changing your state of mind
A modern understanding of hypnosis is that it helps people choose which state of mind they are in to achieve the best results in a particular task. It is really about teaching effective state management. Many get themselves into an anxious state of mind in a few seconds by worrying about an interview, running imaginary thoughts through their mind or sitting in a traffic jam. There is an alternative such as creating a state of confidence before an interview, switching to a relaxed state while waiting in that traffic jam or moving into neutral mode and challenging imaginary thoughts. Hypnosis is a relaxed, peaceful state of mind – something we all need to get mind rest and let go of stress and tension.

Advanced Hypnotherapy
Advanced hypnotherapy has been described as a laser beam, designed to get to the heart of the problem and bring about the quickest and most effective therapy.

An increasing number of people are attracted to hypnotherapy because they want something that is positive, constructive and specific.  They may be happy with many aspects of their life, but want help mastering one thing.  Hypnotherapy can help with many, many things including:

Quitting smoking, controlling weight, stress management, anxiety, confidence, enhancing any performance (sports, the arts, exams, driving tests, presentations, public speaking, weddings, eulogies, launching ships!),  phobias and fears, curbing alcohol intake, sleep problems, giving birth, pain relief, IBS, relaxation, motivation, habits, relationships and much more.

In fact, hypnosis can help with any human endeavour.

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis.  It utilizes the natural trance state that we all enter daily.  It is natural, safe and has no harmful side-effects, unlike some prescription drugs.   It’s far gentler than stage hypnosis and you remain firmly in control.

What is hypnosis?
In simple terms, it’s a state when someone’s body becomes completely relaxed, while their mind is beautifully calm, concentrated and aware.  We all go into these natural trance state daily – it could be day-dreaming, getting absorbed in a book/music or TV, or driving and forgetting chunks of a journey.  A therapist’s voice can guide you into this wonderful relaxation.   It’s a partnership between therapist and client, and you are using your mind and imagination to enter this state.  It often produces a wonderful feeling of well-being.  I personally find it the easiest way to achieve complete mind and body rest.

How does it all work?
In hypnosis, the conscious, busy mind rests and the inner, subconscious mind is more accessible.  This is our real powerhouse, looking after the automatic functions of our body, controlling our habits and containing all our memories.   Communicating directly with the subconscious, we can get to the root of  problems, heal the past, alter unwanted habits and work to create a positive future.

Unlike suggestion only hypnotherapy, advanced hypnotherapy has a whole toolkit of therapeutic techniques, which are always explained.  These include visualisation, regression, parts therapy, gestalt, CBT and NLP.

Can everyone be hypnotised?  How does it feel? Am I in control?
Anyone of normal IQ with no severe mental problems can be hypnotised IF THEY WISH.    There are no special feelings as such, you are not asleep, you just experience a wonderful feeling of relaxation.  You remain in control, can hear what is happening around you and can’t be made to do anything against your will.  If a fire alarm went, for instance, you would come out of hypnosis immediately for self-protection.

Self Hypnosis
The benefits of daily relaxation are enormous for your mental and physical well- being, so all clients are taught self hypnosis.  One bank manager client swears by it and uses brief relaxation  at work to aid his performance.

How many sessions do I need?
Advanced hypnotherapy is a brief therapy which delivers powerful results.  It’s important to stress that most issues need a COURSE OF THERAPY over about 3 to 5 sessions.  If you have been troubled with an issue for years, you cannot expect a therapist to work a one-hour miracle!  Therapy is brief – but not that brief.

Normally, sessions are about a week apart, with the first two lasting about 1 ½ - 2 hours, and subsequent sessions of about 1 ½ hours.  CDs are provided to listen to daily between sessions and form an important part of the treatment, so commitment is key.

Smokers who are serious about stopping smoking can sign up for a very  intensive 2 hours session.  People with emotional issues or certain physical conditions may want to consider stop smoking treatment over three sessions, and this would be discussed by ‘phone.

Putting you in control
In addition to hypnotherapy, 4Change provides a variety of tips, techniques and thinking skills to allow clients to take control of their lives and manage their emotional states.  You get literature and CDs, and these simple but powerful tools can make all the difference.

Commitment
Hypnosis is not magic -  the client is an active part of the process.  It goes without saying that the client needs to follow simple instructions to obtain the best results.  Any tapes and literature provided form an important part of the treatment.  Sometimes people ask me for my success rate.  Well, that depends upon the client!  I’m 100% committed to their success – they must also play their part and have the motivation to make that change.  As another long established hypnotherapist once said: “if you expect someone to click their fingers and make you well in minutes, you need a magician!”

See my testimonials page for client feedback.

Please note:

The effects of therapy may differ for different patients, and no therapy offers a 100% guarantee of a cure.  Any medical condition must be checked with your GP first.  All clients are asked to complete a questionnaire before treatment and you will be asked to disclose any medical conditions.   While hypnotherapy is very safe, if you are epileptic, or undergoing psychiatric treatment,  you may be asked to obtain a letter from a medical practitioner to confirm that you may have this treatment.
